GREAT BEND — McPherson High’s JV volleyball team won four straight matches on Saturday in the Great Bend Invitational before losing its finale to take second place with a 4-1 record.

MHS defeated Great Bend (25-17, 25-19), Scott City (25-14, 25-14), Dodge City (25-15, 25-15) and Newton (25-20, 25-10).

The only blemish on the day came against Thomas More Prep. After the Monarchs won the first set 25-20, MHS charged back to even the match with a 25-16 decision. In the deciding set, TMP was a 15-8 winner.

“This weekend was an awesome weekend for the girls,” MHS coach Cara Hollingsworth said. “We played very well against some talented teams. Chelsea Stoppel had 11 kills against Dodge City and Meghan Smith had 7 kills against Newton and 7 more on TMP. Our team was competitive and driven through the whole tournament and fought hard against TMP in the end.”

The Bullpups head to Rose Hill on Tuesday.
