It was sweet success for McPherson’s seventh-grade volleyball team here Monday.

The A-team is now 9-2 after polishing off Derby North (25-5, 25-15) and Newton (25-12, 25-15).

“We had a new rotation tonight and the girls did a great job with it,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “Our serves were good and we did a nice job passing the ball against Derby North. We made some poor decisions in the second set that allowed them to string together some points. We did a nice job of helping each other out during the Newton match. We need to continue to work on serving and keeping our energy level up throughout the entire match.”

The B-team swelled its record to 12-4, routing Derby North (25-5, 25-11) and Newton (25-15, 25-21).

“We had a great day of volleyball today,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “Kendall Boughfman, Abby Pierce, and Avery Strathman had amazing serves today. Maliya Paine, Jersey Lopez, Katelyn Mintzer, and Jade Curtis passed the ball really well while Sheridan Bliss, Jaycee Rausch, Emi Jones and Abbi Unruh played at the net really well. We lost our focus a little during the second set against Newton, which allowed them to get some points on us. Overall we handled the ball and communicated well.”
