AUGUSTA — McPherson’s ninth-grade football team played a shortened game on Monday against Augusta, but still produced enough fireworks for a 34-6 win.
Augusta only wanted to play two quarters, but it was decided to make them 12-minute periods instead of 10.
Jakob Feil scored three touchdowns to spark the Bullpups. Kaleb Hoppes hooked up with Cody Stufflebean for another score and Hoppes also threw a TD strike to Keaten Stockham.
“This freshman group is a group our football staff is getting more and more excited about,” MHS assistant coach Heath Gerstner said. “They seem to just get 1 percent better every week and we enjoy coaching them. They are excited to play and they were begging to play a full game, which as a coach makes you excited."
Gerstner said Kourtney Craig and Mason Thrash had huge defensive games. Hoppes added an interception. The only Oriole scoring came due to a blocked punt.
MHS has a big test at home on Monday against Andale.
