HUTCHINSON — For the second time this year, McPherson Middle School’s girls tennis team competed in tournament action as Hutchinson and Prairie Hills hosted a 12-school extravaganza on Tuesday.

The Bullpups have been dual-team specialists as they are undefeated in head-to-head matches.

Sydney Achilles and Carley Malm were the bright spot of the day by winning the No. 2 doubles division with a 3-0 record. The Bullpups were especially strong in doubles as they took second in two other divisions.

All-in-all, the Bullpups brought home 10 medals.

“All of the singles brackets were filled with talented players and our players stepped it up and played well,” MMS coach Ricardo Sanchez said. “We went a little stronger in doubles and it showed with all having winning records, including three teams in the championship matches. CeAnna (Allen) and Patty (Huerta) had a little bit of bad luck in getting a bad draw and then coming out a little flat to lose their first match. I love that they rebounded from that loss to win their next three matches with a combined 18-1 score. I think they realized they have to come out ready to play right from the beginning and that will serve them well at the league championships next Tuesday.”

The Bullpups stay busy with a dual match Thursday at Newton.
