Fearless sees MHS pitching 3rd straight shutout

Fearless Forecaster keeps reaching back for that little something extra on his fastball, but seems to be throwing nothing but changeups.

Another lukewarm week — 16-5 — did nothing to energize our picker, who has floundered through four weeks.

Fearless is now 71-27 on the year and still has a big hole to dig out of if he’s to reach his coveted 80-percent goal.

Misses last week included Circle’s loss to Coffeyville (the Nado scored late to win), McPherson College losing by a field goal to Bethel, Friends stunning nationally ranked Sterling, Hesston losing to Nickerson and the upset special of the week didn’t materialize as Brigham Young lost late to West Virginia.

• AVCTL D-III •

• McPherson 49, Circle 0 — The Bullpups’ defense is taking pride in shutting out its opponent. Unless the T-Birds score against back-ups, this should be three in a row.

• Augusta 31, Chanute 20 — Fearless always goes with the AVCTL against the SEK, though that didn’t work well last week with Circle and Coffeyville.

• Buhler 52, Winfield 7 — The Crusaders make a statement.

• Pittsburg 35, Andover Central 7 — What has happened to the Jags? They will be 0-5 with an expected loss.

• Mulvane 38, Maize South 31 — A second straight loss for the Mavericks.

• Last week — 4-1. Season — 13-5.

• McPHERSON AREA •

• Moundridge 28, Remington 6 — Win No. 1 for new coach Jeremiah Meeks.

• Inman 33, Medicine Lodge 21 — Ditto for the Teutons of new coach Lance Sawyer, which sets up a monster game next week in Inman as it hosts Moundridge.

• Central Plains 46, Canton-Galva 0 — The Eagles will simply turn the page after this one.

• Hesston 27, Smoky Valley 24 — Upset special. Hesston is 1-3, but has played teams a combined 11-1. Smoky Valley has not played a team the Swathers' caliber since Week 1.

• Goessel 42, Little River 32 — Another tough week for the Redskins.

• Last week — 5-1. Season — 17-7.

• KCAC •

• Kansas Wesleyan 45, McPherson College 21 — The Coyotes were back on track last week after losing to Sterling.

• Saint Mary 34, Bethany 27 — The Swedes will still be looking for their first win.

• Friends 27, Southwestern 13 — The Falcons shook the KCAC’s foundation by upsetting Sterling last week.

• Ottawa 35, Bethel 33 — The Braves hand the Threshers their first KCAC loss.

• Tabor 31, Sterling 30 — Tough to bet against Tabor in what is the big game of the day and maybe of the season.

• Last week — 3-2. Season — 16-8.

• BIG 12 •

• Texas Tech 77, Kansas 22 — Hide the women and children if you’re a Jayhawk fan and the Red Raiders have the ball. I’m saying the Raiders will call off the dogs after 11 TDs.

• Kansas State 24, West Virginia 21 — Fearless is just not sold on West Virginia, but loves that K-State defense.

• Baylor 42, Iowa State 21 — The Bears stay perfect.

• Oklahoma 42, TCU 31 — The Sooners are in desperate mode. They have to win out.

• Oklahoma State 31, Texas 28 — Call this one a hunch. Texas’ win over Notre Dame is not that impressive now that the Irish are 1-3.

Last week — 4-1. Season — 25-7.
