After back-to-back losses to the Derby schools, McPherson’s eighth-grade football team got back into the win column here Thursday by blasting Salina Lakewood, 38-8.

This was a no-contest from the start as the Bullpups raced to a 30-0 halftime lead.

MMS coach Brandon Labertew was quick to point out the defense as Blade Anderson and Jayton Alexander led the way. Rhys Vanderhoff and Isaiah Larson came up with interceptions and Nathaniel Rogers recovered a fumble.

There was plenty of offense, too. Scoring plays:

– 80-yard pass from Max Alexander to Brycen Labertew, Labertew added the 2-pointer.

– Labertew had a 53-yard run. Alexander flipped a 2-pointer to Aaron Powell.

— Powell a 45-yard run. Alexander tossed a 2-pointer to EJ Hein.

— Powell a 22-yard pass from Alexander. Labertew scored a 2-pointer.

— Powell a 7-yard run.

MMS, now 3-2 on the season, heads to Hutchinson on Thursday.
