McPherson College’s volleyball team is now tied for fifth place in the 12-member KCAC.

The Bulldogs, picked to finish well back in the KCAC during the preseason, moved to 5-4 in the conference with a straight-sets victory over Saint Mary here Saturday afternoon.

After winning the first set handily 25-13, the Bulldogs won 25-22 and 29-27 in hard-fought fashion.

Mac coach Jessica Cleveland said she was proud of her team’s comeback ability as in both the second and third sets it was down by 7 points only to rally.

Jessica Sanders and Lexi Kite recorded 11 and 7 kills, respectively. Emily Warner came up with 13 digs, while assist leaders were Morgan Little and Kaitlyn Heinis with 14 and 13, respectively.

The Bulldogs are now 12-6 overall as they have perhaps been the KCAC’s surprise team of the year. They entertain 11th-place York College at 7 p.m. Monday at the Sport Center and then host championship contender Kansas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Wesleyan match completes the first round of the KCAC schedule.
