McPherson High seniors Ellea Ediger and Rachel Ivers closed out their last home match in style on Saturday by winning the McPherson Invitational.
Ediger and Ivers, second in Class 4A last year, knocked off teammates Heidi Myers and Taylor Bruce in the finals, 8-2.
In singles, Maisie Edmonson went 3-1 for third and Rachel Carlson was 1-3 for eighth. Ashley Achilles also competed in singles and was 12th.
Ediger and Ivers went 4-0 on the day and helped the Bullpups to the team title with 78 points, finishing ahead of Salina South (67).
Other team scores were Hutchinson (63), Campus (56), Derby (54), Hays (40), Garden City (38), Newton (33), Liberal (23), Elyria Christian (18) and Great Bend (1).
“Was a beautiful day weather-wise,” MHS coach Tyler Brown said. “Couldn't of asked for a better day to play tennis. For our doubles to meet in the finals was a great way to go into league and regionals.”
Ediger and Ivers led the way.
“Ellea and Rachel anchored our team once again,” Brown said. “They only dropped a handful of games in all their matches combined. Taylor and Heidi did exactly what I needed them to and are playing well going into league, which is awesome cause we need our (No. 2) doubles playing to their potential. Maisie and Rachel Carlson were steady and finished about where I thought they would to round out a complete team effort.”
There’s no rest for the Bullpups as they go to Buhler on Monday for the AVCTL Division III-IV meet.
“We will get to see a few teams that will be in our regional and get to see Collegiate in a setting that will give us an idea of how we truly stack up against the No. 1- ranked team in 4A,” Brown said.
