NEWTON — McPherson High’s cross country teams didn’t make a run at any medals on Saturday in the high-powered Newton Invitational, but Bullpup coach Aspen Frey still was pleased with her team’s performance.

The boys took 12th place and the girls were 13th in large fields.

“Newton is a fast course with tough competition,” she said. “They also had some standing water on the course, which was a fun mess to run through. But overall, we came out and performed with an internal fire today. The women had a slow start, got pinched off at the start and had a hard time making up that ground throughout the race, but managed a nice strong finish. We got a lot of season-bests on our men's side. Looking forward to carry this speed and focus into next week.”

MHS goes to El Dorado on Saturday.
