Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team didn’t extend its winning streak, but it didn’t see it end, either.
The Tigers and high-powered Bellevue University squared off here Monday in a high-stakes game of powerhouse teams. CCC had a 1-0 halftime lead, but the Bruins scored in the second half, then neither team could score in the overtimes as the game ended at 1-1.
CCC had entered the game having won seven in a row and is now 9-3-1 on the year. Jaclyn Carranza scored the goal, with Julia Ramos assisting. Neither player started the game as they came off the bench to provide strong play.
Bellevue’s goal came with just over 7 minutes left in the game.
“I'm very proud of the ladies tonight,” said CCC coach Scott Fogarty, whose team had entered the game 0-12 against Bellevue in the history between the teams. “We were very close to winning this game, but a tie is still a very good result against a quality side like Bellevue. When taken in context that we lost to this same team 11-0 just two years ago, we've come a long ways from those days. It's hard to single out any one or two players from tonight because we competed all over the field. The backline and our goal keeper held some very strong attackers in check all game. Our midfield did great job fighting in midfield and picking up runners. Our attack did what needed to be done to give us a lead."
Central is off until Oct. 11 when it plays at Randall University, which used to be Hillsdale Baptist before it was renamed.
