Fearless picks MHS to make it 4 straight

Finally, some semblance of a pulse for Fearless Forecaster.

FF broke out of his season-long slumber last week by picking 17 of 20 games correctly to improve to 88-30 on the season.

Fearless was oh so close to being better. He picked Kansas State, which let a 16-3 lead get away against West Virginia. He went with Mulvane to defeat Maize South, but the Mavericks scored late to pull it out. And in the area, Fearless has thrown up the white flag when picking Little River, as he’s missed each of the Redskins’ outcomes. They do play No. 1 Central Plains this week, so maybe our picker will get it right.

• AVCTL D-III •

• McPherson 21, Rose Hill 7 — Expected cool conditions might make it a little harder to catch the ball, not to mention the Bullpups have a lot of players banged up. That defense, though, never rests.

• Buhler 35, Augusta 7 — Augusta is 4-1, but the only team of substance it has played is McPherson, which trounced the Orioles by 40-plus.

• Andover Central 21, Circle 14 — I don’t know what’s going on with 0-5 Andover Central, but this is the week it gets going.

• Maize South 38, Winfield 7 — Tough year for the Vikings.

• Last Week — 4-1. Season — 17-6.

• AREA •

• Inman 21, Moundridge 20 — Should be the usual donnybrook. Inman is starting to get some players healthy.

• Central Plains 52, Little River 7 — Unfortunately, Fearless is probably going to pick the Redskins right for the first time this season.

• Hesston 27, Kingman 13 — The Swathers are starting to get it cranked up.

• St. John 28, Canton-Galva 20 — The Eagles are going to get closer, but it’s tough to pick a team starting so many freshmen.

• Smoky Valley 42, Lyons 7 — The Vikings will take a 4-2 record into district play.

• Last week — 4-1. Season — 21-8

• KCAC •

• Ottawa 34, McPherson College 28 — Lack of depth is starting to catch up with the Bulldogs as they have faded in the fourth quarter each of the last two weeks.

• Sterling 42, Bethany 31 — The Swedes fall to 0-6. The Warriors are going to be angry after losing a game late to Tabor.

• Tabor 49, Southwestern 7 — A cakewalk for the Jays.

•  Saint Mary 17, Bethel 10 — The Threshers are playing a lot of low-scoring games.

• Kansas Wesleyan 39, Friends 27 — Kansas Wesleyan stays within shouting distance of Tabor.

• Last week — 5-0. Season — 21-8.

• BIG 12 •

• Oklahoma State 42, Iowa State 21 — The Cowboys are generally really good at home.

• TCU 52, Kansas 24 — The Jayhawks nearly pulled a stunner against the Horned Frogs at home two years ago. No such luck this time.

• Kansas State 31, Texas Tech 30 — If Patrick Mahomes doesn’t play for the Raiders, it could be more.

• Oklahoma 44, Texas 35 — The Red River Showdown goes to the Sooners.

West Virginia and Baylor are open.

• Last week — 4-1. Season — 29-8.
