It was a fun night of volleyball on Thursday at McPherson Middle School as the teams hosted Derby North in a dual match.

• 8th Grade A — The Bullpups won the third set 15-10 after splitting the first two. They won the first set 25-10, only to see Derby North tie it up with a 25-20 success.

MMS improved to 12-2.

“The girls were hyped up for the first set and then had a little letdown in the second set, but they kept playing hard and came away with a victory in the end,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “Only one more week left this season, and it will be a big week ending with the Pioneer League Tournament next Saturday. We have some work to do in practice in order to be ready to compete at the highest level and play our best.”

• 8th Grade B — At long last, MMS got back to .500 at 9-9.

The Bullpups took out North in straight sets, 25-13, 25-19 and the performance brought a smile to coach Aimee McDaniel’s face.

“We played the best we have all year,” McDaniel said. “Great job to Ashtyn Heim for serving the first 17 points.”

• 7th Grade A — The Bullpups plowed to 25-18, 25-8 triumphs to move to 12-2 on the season.

“We got off to a good start and then got stuck in a serve receive, while Derby North picked up 7 straight points” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “We stopped communicating and stopped helping each other. I was proud of the way the girls were able to step up and get back in control. The second set was much better. The girls had great hustle and teamwork tonight, and our serving continues to improve. It was a great way to end our final home match of the season.”

• 7th Grade B — MMS improved to 15-4 as it took the measure of Derby North, 25-19, 25-21.

“The girls played much better tonight, but still struggled with keeping our serves in play,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “They communicated well and continued to stay positive throughout the games.”
