Hesston outlasts Smoky Valley during triangular

LYONS — Hesston High’s volleyball team came away with a 2-0 record on Tuesday as it outlasted Smoky Valley and Lyons.

State-ranked teams Hesston and Smoky Valley had a donnybrook, with the Swathers winning in three sets (25-20, 19-25, 25-19). The Swathers also defeated Lyons (25-13, 25-19) to improve to 26-4.

Smoky Valley played another three-setter against Lyons, but triumphed in this one (23-25, 25-18, 25-15).

In the Hesston match, Smoky Valley’s Kate Deterding and Haley Peterson had 9 and 8 kills, respectively. Rilee Carson came up with 14 digs and Delaney Johnson had 21 assists.

Against Lyons, Deterding and Peterson recorded 14 kills apiece, Carson had 17 digs and Halle McClure added 14, while Johnson had a whopping 33 assists.
