BUHLER — McPherson High’s volleyball team clinched no worse than a tie for the league championship on Tuesday by sweeping Circle and Buhler.

The Circle match was huge as it eliminated the T-Birds from the league race. MHS won a close first set 27-25, then took the second, 25-19.

The Bullpups crushed Buhler 25-9, 25-13 to complete the sweep. MHS finished league play 8-2. Augusta is the only team that can catch the Bullpups as it is 7-2 with one league match left to play.

The Bullpups are 22-15 overall with six wins in their last eight matches.

“Great team effort, recognizing some of our bad team habits or tendencies and actively correcting them before they got out of hand,” MHS coach Christy Doile said.

Among the highlights, Doile said, was finally winning a close set as the team did against Circle and she also was happy how the Bullpups returned to their dominating ways against Buhler after being down 10-4 in the second set. Elle Barrett and Rachel Dossett were lauded for their serving.

The JVs also came up with a sweep, knocking off Circle (25-14, 25-16) and Buhler (19-25, 25-20, 25-21).

MHS is home on Tuesday to take on a pair of tough teams in Clearwater and Rose Hill.
