Fearless picks MHS to get past Hays

Now that’s more like it.

Except for missing on the Canton-Galva Eagles’ victory over St. John, it was a perfect week for Fearless Forecaster.

Fearless went 17-1. He went with St. John to defeat Canton-Galva because the Tigers were 3-2 entering the game and the Eagles were still looking for their first win and half of their lineup has been freshmen.

But that’s a game Fearless will gladly miss if it means a win for the Power Eagles.

Fearless is now 105-31 on the year for 77 percent as he continues his relentless pursuit of his coveted 80 percent goal. There are a lot of tough games this week as many teams of similar ilk are matched up.

• AVCTL DIVISION III •

• McPherson 28, Hays 14 — Hays is probably the best 1-5 team in the state and may be the toughest team MHS has played since Maize South in Week 2.

• Andale 45, Buhler 38 — It may come down to which team has the ball last.

• Maize South 24, Augusta 10 — The Mavericks are one of two teams to hand McPherson High a loss this year.

• Circle 14, El Dorado 7 — The T-Birds get their second win of the year.

• Winfield 16, Wellington 14 — Tough one to pick. Both have struggled mightily this season.

• Andover Central 21, Rose Hill 20 — FF almost went with Rose Hill. The Rockets were much better than the 44-8 score against MHS indicates.

• Last week — 4-0. Season — 21-6.

• McPHERSON AREA •

• Inman 27, Remington 14 — The Teutons, after an 0-4 start, creep to within a game of .500.

• Sedgwick 38, Moundridge 28 — The Wildcats need desperately to pull an upset.

• Hesston 49, Hillsboro 7 — The Swathers have figured things out.

• Little River 38, Canton-Galva 32 — Both are now in the Wheat State League, but 35 years ago this one of the best rivalries in the Heart of America.

• Smoky Valley 26, Rock Creek 13 – The Vikings are the surprise team in the area this year.

• Last week — 4-1. Season — 25-9.

• KCAC •

• Friends 42, McPherson College 35 — Homecoming for the Bulldogs and the fans will get their money’s worth.

• Bethany 34, Southwestern 17 — Finally, victory No. 1 for the Swedes, who should not be winless with the talent they have.

• Tabor 38, Kansas Wesleyan 35 — The Bluejays take a huge step toward winning another KCAC title in the marquee game of the season.

• Sterling 30, Bethel 14 — The Warriors stay alive in the KCAC chase.

• Ottawa 46, Saint Mary 34 — Look for a lot of points in this one.

• Last week — 5-0. Season — 26-8.

• BIG 12 •

• Baylor 59, Kansas 24 — Last week’s close call will have a hangover effect for the Jayhawks.

• Texas Tech 52, West Virginia 41 — The Red Raiders are a different team at home.

• Oklahoma 38, Kansas State 31 — K-State always plays the Sooners tough.

• Texas 41, Iowa State 24 — Charlie Strong’s head is on the chopping block. Let’s see if his team fights for him.

Oklahoma State and TCU are open.

• Last week — 5-0. Season — 33-8.
