The KCAC football basement will have one less tenant after Saturday.
Something’s got to give when last-place teams Southwestern and Bethany College hook up for the Swedes’ annual homecoming game in Lindsborg.
Kickoff at Anderson Field starts at 1:30 p.m.
Both teams are 0-4 in the KCAC. The Moundbuilders are 0-5 overall and the Swedes are 0-6.
The Swedes could easily have a couple of wins, but have suffered from the turnover bug that led to losses. They basically gave away a win against Saint Mary two weeks ago, leading by 16 points in the second half before losing, 34-33.
Last week, it all unraveled for the Swedes against Sterling after a competitive first half. Down just 21-6 in the third quarter, a blocked kick turned everything the Warriors’ way as they scored Bethany 35-0 in the second half for a 56-6 victory.
Southwestern’s best chance to win came in its KCAC opener. It led McPherson College 20-7 after the first quarter, but it was all Bulldogs after that as Mac snared a 27-20 victory.
Since then, the Builders have been pretty much manhandled. They are probably looking at this game as their best chance to win the rest of the season.
Offense is the biggest problem for the Builders as they rank last in the KCAC in rushing and next-to-last in passing.
A Swede win is imperative since the next three games are against upper-division teams Kansas Wesleyan, Friends and Tabor. Wesleyan and Tabor are both nationally ranked this week and they also to head-to-head on Saturday.
