McPherson’s eighth-grade football team completed an outstanding two-year middle school run here Thursday with a 20-8 victory over Valley Center.
The Bullpups finished the season 5-2, with the only two losses to the Derby schools that they’ll never face in the future. This group was undefeated last year as seventh-graders with a 7-0 record.
MMS pounded the ball on the ground behind its strong offensive line for 171 yards and added 63 through the air.
Aaron Powell had a pair of short TD runs and Brycen Labertew added a 60-yard gallop. Max Alexander hooked up with Eli Pyle for a 2-pointer.
Powell, Devin Frantz and Jonah Scott were MMS’ top tacklers.
“I think they have a bright future in high school,” MMS coach Brandon Labertew said. “I would like to thank the parents for all their support this year. I would also like to thank my assistant coaches Tim Hein and Kurt Kinnamon for all the time and effort they put in.”
