WINFIELD — McPherson High’s Ellea Ediger and Rachel Ivers stampeded to the Class 4A state doubles championship on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of Grace Uhlenhop and Jordyn Maddex of Andover Central.

Behind the champion duo, the Bullpups scored 35 points to take second place to Wichita Collegiate, which tallied 38.

Ediger and Ivers — who were second in the state last year — are the first state doubles champions at MHS since Ediger’s sister Emily combined with Camry Holle in 2013 for the title.

Ellea Ediger also was second in the state in singles as a freshman and fifth in singles as a sophomore as she’ll go down as one of most decorated players in school history.

MHS’ Maisie Edmonson was seventh in singles. All the Bullpups scored as Heidi Myers and Taylor Bruce were ninth in doubles and Rachel Carlson was 12th in singles.
