Rhea Vale’s first goal of the season could not have come at a better time.
Vale scored in the 35th minute here Saturday to propel McPherson College’s women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan.
She had taken a corner kick from Heather Diamond.
The victory improved the Bulldogs to 3-3 in the KCAC and 7-4 overall.
Mac was the better team throughout as it had a 14-4 advantage in shots. Sheryl Evans picked up another shutout.
“It certainly was nice to finally be on the receiving end of a set piece this year," Mac coach Doug Quint said. "I'm very proud of our work ethic tonight. It was nice to see us rewarded for it. That was a good Oklahoma Wesleyan program we beat and a very valuable three points (in the KCAC standings). Now we have another tough opponent on Wednesday to prepare for."
Mac goes to Ottawa on Wednesday, then is home Saturday against Southwestern.
• OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN MEN 3, MAC 1 — The Bulldogs gave up three first-half goals to the No. 1 team in the nation before settling down with a strong second half as they actually outscored the Eagles after the break.
Jesus Pescador scored the Mac goal in the second half. The Bulldogs are now 3-3 in the KCAC, 8-4-1 overall.
“Oklahoma Wesleyan was as good as advertised," Quint said. "I was pleased with a lot of aspects of tonight's game. We competed well and had some nice moments. What we didn't do well was deal with crosses whipped into the box. It's certainly something we will address in training this week."
Mac plays Wednesday at Ottawa.
