WICHITA — Hesston’s Morgan Holopirek finished second in singles and the Swathers carted home the third-place plaque on Saturday in the Class 3-2-1A State Tennis Tournament.
Holopirek lost in the finals to Anna Riedmiller of Wichita Independent, 6-1, 6-1.
Riedmiller lost only three games on Saturday.
Hesston, the defending state champion, scored 34 points to finish behind Independent (37) and Kansas City Christian (35) in what was an exciting four-team race as Conway Springs tallied 32 points.
Hesston’s doubles team of Olivia Brubacher and Kylie Martin took fifth place. The Swathers also received some good points from the doubles team of Makaiya Russell and Ashley Hubbard, as they were ninth.
The Swathers qualified all six players for state, including seniors Holopirek and Brubacher. Back will be Martin, Russell, Hubbard and singles qualifier Halle Krehbiel.
