MHS spikers draw Hays

McPherson High will take on Hays at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Class 4A Division I volleyball sub-state hosted by the Indians.

In the 2 p.m. match, Buhler (6-29) goes up against Ulysses (24-12).

The championship match is 4 p.m.

Here are the other matchups for the area:

• Smoky Valley — The Vikings (26-11) play Clay Center (15-20).  The earlier match pits Concordia (31-8) against Chapman (9-24)

• Hesston — The Swathers (31-6) play Sterling (10-22) in the opening round. If successful they would play the winner of Minneapolis (10-21) and Phillipsburg (24-13). Beloit (32-4) is the favorite from the other side of the bracket.

• Elyria Christian School — The 15-14 Eagles play Caldwell (15-19) after a play-in game. Sylvan Lucas (29-6) is the top seed.

• Canton-Galva — The Eagles are 17-13 and the fourth seed. They take on Valley Heights (17-18) and should they win, top seed Chase County (29-7) is looming. 

• Moundridge and Inman — Inman (26-10) is the No. 2 seed at St. John and takes on Medicine Lodge (7-25). A win as the Teutons would play the winner of Ellinwood (23-12) and Moundridge (8-27). Central Plains (33-2) is the top seed.

• Little River — The 10-20 Redskins head to Burrton. They are matched against Pretty Prairie (20-11). Norwich (23-10) is the top seed.
