Fearless likes MHS to win big Friday

Just when it appeared Fearless Forecaster was all the way back from his earlier fall to mediocrity, last week knocked him right back down.

An 18-6 week, which came on the heels of a 17-1 performance, sank FF’s record to 119-37 (76 percent) as the season heads into the home stretch.

Fearless lost two games in the AVCTL. He picked Circle to knock off El Dorado, while also going with Buhler to defeat Andale, which lost its quarterback during the game.

In the area, Fearless misfired on Inman, as he picked the Teutons to defeat Remington, which had entered the game winless.

In the KCAC, Fearless missed two more games as he picked KCAC leader Tabor to knock off Kansas Wesleyan, while he was surprised that Saint Mary defeated Ottawa.

Finally in the Big 12, FF thought Texas Tech would prevail over West Virginia in Lubbock, but apparently the Red Raiders are a one-trick pony.

All-in-all, a disaster of a week for Fearless. He needs a miracle to get back to 80 percent by season’s end.

• McPherson 42, Wamego 7 — Week 9 will be for the district championship as the Bullpups play at undefeated Abilene.

• Buhler 55, El Dorado 7 — The Crusaders are steaming toward a district title.

• Augusta 20, Andover Central 14 — Not sure what’s happened with Andover Central as its slogging through the season. Augusta is 1-3 since a 3-0 start.

• Andale 56, Circle 6 — The Indians are going to be the No. 2 qualifier from their district.

• Ulysses 21, Winfield 7 – What a long drive (272 ridiculous miles) for the Tigers.

• Maize South 34, Rose Hill 14 — The Mavericks move to 7-1.

• Last week — 4-2. Season — 25-8.

 • Moundridge 17, Medicine Lodge 14 — The Wildcats stay mathematically alive in their district.

• Inman 30, Christ Prep 20 — Christ Prep outlasted Medicine Lodge by 4 and Inman beat the Chiefs by 3. That tells me it should be a competitive game.

• Hesston 31, Southeast of Saline 30 — The Swathers hand Southeast its first loss of the season.

• Little River 42, Ellinwood 24 – The Redskins are rolling now.

• Goessel 42, Canton-Galva 35 — I thought after the Eagles defeated St. John they might string some wins together. But last week’s loss to Little River was a crusher.

• Smoky Valley 28, Chapman 21 — The Vikings move to 2-0 in district play.

• Last week — 4-1. Season — 29-10.

• KCAC •

• McPherson College 34, Saint Mary 31 — Upset special. The Bulldogs are due to end their streak of heartbreak by knocking off one of the KCAC’s leaders.

• Kansas Wesleyan 49, Bethany 28 — The Coyotes will dispatch with their most fierce rival.

• Bethel 24, Southwestern 10 — The Threshers are probably wondering what happened to their top-notch defense last week after giving up 70 to Sterling.

• Sterling 51, Ottawa 48 — This isn’t a typical Ottawa team. It lost last week to Saint Mary and should have lost the week before against McPherson College as it was down 14 in the fourth quarter to the Bulldogs.

• Tabor 31, Friends 17 — The Bluejays simply don’t lose two in a row in the KCAC.

• Last week — 3-2. Season — 29-10.

• BIG 12 •

• Oklahoma State 52, Kansas 21 — The Jayhawks struggle with fast-paced offenses, while their own offense is turning it over more than any team in the country.

• Kansas State 23, Texas 19 — The Wildcats will summon their Bill Snyder Family Stadium magic.

• Oklahoma 59, Texas Tech 35 — The defenses will take the day off.

• West Virginia 31, TCU 24 — Picking against West Virginia time and again has hurt Fearless’ record.

• Iowa State and Baylor are open.

• Last week — 3-1. Season — 36-9.
