Regional cross country set for Saturday

McPherson High and Smoky Valley will head out to Victoria’s Sand Plum Golf Course on Saturday for the Class 4A Regional Cross Country Meet, hosted by Hays.

The girls run at 10 a.m., the boys at 10:40.

There are four 4A regionals, with the others being held in Burlington, El Dorado and Kansas City Turner.

The top three teams from each regional qualify for state, with the Top 10 runners also advancing, with the possibility of additional qualifiers being added.

Smoky Valley’s boys, led by one of the state’s top runners in Calvin Shannon, are expected to be near the top. 

Other teams include Abilene, Buhler, Chapman, Clay Center, Colby, Concordia, Goodland, Holcomb, Larned, Nickerson, Pratt, Scott City and Ulysses.

Hesston goes to a 3A meet at Sterling. 

Canton-Galva and Inman will be together as they go to Meade for a 2A qualifier. Elyria Christian is scheduled to be at Wichita.
