For McPherson College volleyball coach Jessica Cleveland, this was personal.
Cleveland’s Bulldogs took on the Friends Falcons on Friday at the Sport Center and were hoping to avenge a three-set loss from earlier in the season.
The night didn’t start well for the Bulldogs as they lost the first two sets (14-25, 21-25). But after winning a thrilling third set 28-26, the Bulldogs rode the wave for 25-18, 15-12 victories.
“After coming out 0-2, I didn't think we had it to win, but the girls proved me wrong," said Cleveland, who beat her alma mater for the first time as a four-year coach. "They came out and had a change of heart and played great. We are extremely excited for this win after losing in three sets the first time around."
Lexi Kite had a monster night for the Bulldogs with 21 kills and 20 digs. Emily Warner hustled to 33 digs, while Kaitlyn Heinis and Morgan Little notched 27 and 26 assists, respectively. Jessica Sanders and Leia Seiler had 10 kills apiece.
The victory improved Mac to 10-7 in the KCAC and 17-9 overall as it continues to play upper-division volleyball. The Bulldogs play Monday at Saint Mary, then host KCAC-leading Ottawa on Wednesday.
