HAYS — McPherson High’s young cross country team has poured a foundation for better days ahead.

The Bullpups’ season ended on Saturday in the Class 4A Regional Meet, with MHS’ Tyler Timson just missing making state.

Timson was 14th in 16:51.28.

Both teams took seventh and it required a third-place finish to advance. Maggie Leaf led the Bullpup girls by taking 24th in 21:12.43.

“Sad to see the season end, but couldn't be more excited for these kids and all of the hard work they put in this season,” first-year MHS head coach Aspen Frey said. “Proud of each one of these kids and how far they've come. Most of the kids smashed their PRs (personal records) today.”

The future is especially bright for the girls, who did not have a single senior competing. For the boys, it was the last meet for Chris Kirchner, Paxton Leaf and Isac Moreno.
