Extensive road construction continues along Highway 56 headed east and west through the City of McPherson. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) project has resulted in numerous detours to local businesses. Traffic lanes on the south side are closed between I-135 and Carrie Street. Drivers are instructed to adhere to barriers, traffic lights and signs accordingly.

Visitors arriving from I-135 at Exit 60 will travel west on Highway 56 to the first stop light at Centennial Road. To access restaurants and hotels on the south side, drivers should turn south onto Centennial Road followed by an immediate turn east onto South Front Road. Additional businesses can be reached by following South Front Road to the stop sign, turning south onto Champlin Street and then turning east to the parking lot behind Arby’s. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously to avoid excessive potholes in this area.

KDOT reports the road construction will continue through August 2017.
