There’s nothing better than winning on Senior Night.
McPherson College’s volleyball team closed out its home regular-season schedule here Friday by sweeping Sterling (25-23, 25-23, 25-21).
The victory was important from the standpoint it assured the Bulldogs of a winning KCAC season. They are now 12-8 in the conference with two matches left to play and one more win would get them to 20, as they are 19-10 overall. Last year Mac was 2-18 in the KCAC and 7-25 overall.
“It was so fun to recognize the seven seniors on our team," Mac first-year coach Jessica Cleveland said. "They all got to start the match and end with a ‘W.’ I am so proud of this group of seniors for sticking it out, especially those who have been in the program for four years. They will be known as the class that turned the program around in one year. I inherited a great group of senior leaders."
Lexi Kite had her usual double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs Jocelyn Cochran also had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Kaitlyn Heinis had 21 assists, while Morgan Little chipped in with 17. Emily Warner was tops in digs with 18.
The Bulldogs, who are in fifth place in the 12-team KCAC, play Wednesday at York, which is one of the bottom teams in the conference. The finale is against Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday and the Coyotes nearly upset KCAC leader Ottawa on Friday.
