McPherson College’s soccer teams closed out the regular season with expected wins over KCAC second-division teams York College here Tuesday.
The Mac men were actually pushed by the Panthers as they managed only a 1-0 victory on a goal by Christopher Kelly, which came off a rebound in the first half.
Mac finished KCAC play with a splendid 7-3-1 record and is 12-4-2 overall. The Bulldogs wound up as the No. 4 seed for the postseason tournament and will host county rival Bethany College at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Kennel (the grass field next to the stadium). The teams met last week, with the Bulldogs coming away with a 3-0 victory.
• MAC WOMEN 4, YORK 0 — It was more of a stress-free game for the Bulldog women, who finished KCAC play at 6-5 and take a 10-6 record into postseason play.
Mac tied with Oklahoma Wesleyan and Tabor for fifth place, but wound up as the No. 7 seed after all the tiebreakers were figured out. The Bulldogs head to Salina for a 7 p.m. game on Friday against Kansas Wesleyan. KW defeated the Bulldogs 3-0 in September.
Four different Bulldogs got into the scoring act — Ana Guerrero, Alexis Lynn, Allie Hicks and Cydney Lewis. Sheryl Evans recorded her seventh shutout of the year in goal.
