HESSTON — Red-hot Hesston High will be home for the second time this week when it hosts Chaparral at 6 p.m. Saturday in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.

After starting the season 1-3, the Swathers have peeled off six wins in a row, including Tuesday’s 48-8 rout of Sterling in the first round of the playoffs.

The Swathers had great balance on offense as they dominated the game from start to finish. Quarterback Zach Esau is playing at a high level, both throwing and running the ball. Zach Vogt is his go-to receiver, while Parker Roth has been rolling off 100-yard rushing games like cars off an assembly line.

Chaparral enters the game 9-1, the only loss coming to Garden Plain (22-14). Garden Plain also defeated Hesston 33-27, so on paper it appears to have all the making of a close game.

Chaparral advanced on Tuesday with a 48-16 rout of Douglass.

Saturday’s winner most likely will play undefeated Phillipsburg in the third round as it plays 3-7 Larned on Saturday.
