McPherson College’s men’s soccer team knew that it would be difficult to repeat last week’s 3-0 victory over Bethany.
And it was.
But the Bulldogs still managed to get the job done as they outlasted their county rival 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the KCAC Postseason Tournament here Saturday.
The reward is a road trip Wednesday to play the No. 1 team in the nation in the semifinals, Oklahoma Wesleyan. The KCAC champs were 11-0 in the conference and are 18-0-1 overall. They knocked off the Bulldogs 3-1 earlier this season.
Goals for the Bulldogs were by David Mwinga, Edward Gomez and Nick Torres. Torres, Mwinga and Brayam De La Cruz all had assists.
Mac led 2-1 at the half before Torres’ goal pushed it to 3-1. CJ Lewis scored for Bethany at the 68:35 mark, but the Bulldogs were able to fight off the spirited challenge by their rival the rest of the way.
Aaron Parrott had 4 saves for the Bulldogs, now 13-4-2 on the season.
Bethany finished the year 7-8-2.
