HESSTON — The Hesston Swathers’ relentless march continues.

The Swathers shook off a game-opening kickoff return for a touchdown by Chaparral’s Parker Patterson for a 35-20 victory on Saturday to move into the Class 3A state football quarterfinals.

The Swathers, now 8-3 and winners of seven in a row, play at undefeated Phillipsburg on Friday.

Quarterback Zach Esau was again dazzling, running for three touchdowns and passing for two more, one to Tanner Bachman  and the other to Zach Vogt.

Esau wound up 21 of 34 for 330 yards. Cameron Cox caught 8 passes for 117 yards and Vogt had 8 for 96.

Hesston led only 22-20 at the half, but its defense pitched a second-half shutout.
