DENVER — Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team advanced to the finals of the AII Conference Tournament on Friday with a 2-0 victory over Johnson and Wales, avenging an earlier defeat.
CCC will play Rochester College at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the title.
Central scored a goal in each half. Co-AII Conference Player of the Year Isabel Sierra and Nikki Neal scored the Tigers’ goals.
"Our journey continues," CCC head coach Scott Fogarty said. "We played a good match against a team we lost to only 2 weeks ago. It wasn't quite the goal-fest it was the first time, but a much more controlled game. They jumped all over us the first half, but we did well to limit their ability to create any chances and we scored early, which calmed any nerves. We came out much better in the second, but ironically it was also the half they created more chances against us. This sport is like that sometimes. But we kept a clean sheet .which is always our aim every game. We constantly remind ourselves that 'if they don't score, we can't lose'."
Central is now 12-5-1. The Rochester team it plays in the finals upset the tourney’s top seed, Georgia Gwinnett.
