DENVER — Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team was edged 1-0 by Rochester College on Saturday in the finals of the AII Conference Tournament.
The only goal was scored in the game’s 63rd minute.
CCC goalie Goldie Bougher was sensational as she time and again turned back good chances by Rochester. She was credited with 8 saves.
“I'm proud of this team,” CCC coach Scott Fogarty said. “We didn't have our best game or get the result we wanted, but we have to acknowledge our opponent today and the things they did that made life difficult for us. Rochester played a good game. But to be here and make it so far with such a young team bodes well for our future. Our NAIA journey may have ended, but now we have to refocus on earning a national tournament berth through the NCCAA Regionals next week."
Central, which has dual membership in the NAIA and NCCAA, will take a 12-6-1 record into the regionals as the Tigers return to Denver next weekend. The tourney winner gets an automatic berth to nationals to Kissimmee, Fla. Last year the Tigers were second in the regional, but received an at-large berth to nationals.
