Two Smolan residents were injured this weekend in a car accident at the intersection of McPherson’s Hwy 56 and the ramp off interstate 135.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, about 7:30 Saturday evening, Robin Albers of Smolan, age 58, was exiting the interstate ramp and failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle driven by Verle Amthauer of Junction City, age 55, who was leaving McPherson on Hwy 56.

Albers and her 11 year-old passenger Kaylee Albers, also of Smolan, were taken to McPherson Hospital and treated for injuries. They have since been released. Kaylee was the only one involved in the accident who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Amthauer and his passenger were not injured. The area where the accident occurred is under heavy construction.
