The city of McPherson officially approved the retirement of Lt. Jerry Montagne from the McPherson Police Department effective December 1.

“After numerous years of service to the city, he was elected sheriff, and pending his appointment to that position, he has to retire from ours,” Chief Rob McClarty told city commissioners at Monday’s weekly meeting.

McPherson’s Mayor Tom Brown formally agreed to Montagne’s retirement and also expressed gratitude for his service.

“I would like to move that we accept the retirement of Jerry Montagne effective December 1, 2016 and, very appropriately, show him our appreciation.”

Jerry Montagne was elected McPherson County Sheriff in the November 8 general election. He will formally take office January 9.
