Thomason Selected as Philanthropist of the Year

Verla Thomason was named the McPherson County Community Foundation’s Philanthropist of the Year! Verla was honored Thursday night at the McPherson Opera House along with finalists Warren Vincent and June Anderson for their charity work in various McPherson County community organizations.

Verla will now be able to designate her cash winnings of $1000 to a local non-profit of her choice. She was selected for her work with a number of organizations, including McPherson’s Community Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners.

Warren Vincent received the second place prize of $750 for his work as “The Can Man,” collecting Cans for Kansas Honor Flights to help send WWII veterans to Washington, DC to visit the memorial dedicated to their service at no cost to the veteran.  

The third finalist June Anderson was recognized with a $500 cash prize for her work with the McPherson Hospital Auxilliary. She and Warren will also be able to designate their winnings to organizations that they choose.
