McPherson’s eighth-grade girls basketball team got off to a splendid start here Tuesday with a sweep of overmatched Goddard.

In the A-game, the Bullpups had a monster offensive game with a 51-16 victory. Grace Pyle and Kassidy Beam tossed in 12 points apiece.

The B-team was amazingly dominant with a 56-2 rout. Kenzee Godwin fired in 18 points, Shelby Yowell furnished 12 and Katie Berg supplied 10.

“For our first game we did pretty good and I was very proud of our effort,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “There is a lot to improve on, and we will go to practice and work on those things. We got out in the passing lane and got several steals. I thought in both games we shared the ball well.”

MMS goes to Maize South on Thursday.

MMS A (51) — Godwin 3, Berg 4, Malm 6, Kynaston 7, Alexander 7, Beam 12, Pyle 12.

MMS B (56) — Schwartz 2, Byrd 2, Berlanga 4, Myers 8, Berg 10, Yowell 12, Godwin 18.
