GODDARD — Goddard outlasted McPherson’s eighth-grade boys 47-42 in the Bullpups’ basketball season opener on Tuesday.
Jayton Alexander led MMS with 16 points and Max Alexander contributed 10.
The Bullpups earned a split by winning the B-game, 37-28. Cael Bauer fired in 15 points and Aaron Powell added 10.
“I felt the effort was there, in both games we played extremely hard,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “These teams unfortunately are going to have to shoot the ball well to win games. We are undersized and will have to make up for that by shooting well and by playing tough defensively. We also will need to improve in boxing out and only giving a team one chance at scoring if that. We must rebound. If we don't do that we will have a challenge in pulling away from teams.”
MMS hosts Maize South on Thursday.
MMS A (42) — J. Alexander 16, M. Alexander 10, Pyle 8, Labertew 5, Elliott 3.
MMS B (37) — Bauer 15, Powell 10, Gipson 5, Butler 3, Gerbrandt 2, Ediger 2.
