MAIZE — McPherson’s eighth-grade girls were taken into overtime by Maize South on Thursday, but the Bullpups came away with a 33-30 victory to move to 2-0 on the basketball season.
Kassidy Beam tallied 12 points to lead MMS, one more than Lexi Kynaston.
“It was good to see this team have to play a tight game and see how they would respond in difficult situations,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We made plays when we needed them. We will continue to get better because tonight we competed. We only scored 3 in overtime, but they did not score at all.”
The B-team was an easy 48-15 winner as it’s also now 2-0. Kenzee Godwin and Shelby Yowell fired in 17 points apiece.
“(The) team played very well and their abilities to create turnovers leading them to fast break points is something that this group does very well,” Crawford said. “They competed well and are getting better, Both teams saw several things we can work on, but both got big wins on the road.”
MMS is home Monday to take on Goddard Eisenhower.
