Seth Madron was the hot knife and the Maize South defense was the butter on Thursday as McPherson’s seventh-grade boys rolled to a 52-31 basketball victory.
Madron time and again drove the lane and scored 29 points, including 19 in the first half. Simon Boese was next with 8.
The Maize South B-team returned the favor with a 48-20 rout. Sky Schriner and Parker VanCampen scored 5 points apiece.
“A tale of two games,” MMS coach Eric Burghart said. “The A-boys were all over Maize South from the get-go. We defended to the utmost getting a hand on everything. A good amount of the points we scored were caused by defensive pressure and we never looked back. Seth was spectacular on both ends of the floor. Everybody who touched the floor showed a tenacity on the defensive end and once we begin to harness that aggression on the offensive end I think we'll be very dangerous. The B-game was very good for these guys in that it showed us a lot of our flaws up close and personal. We found out how we have to practice and how we have to prepare to be where we want to be. Slowly but surely this group will get there.”
MMS goes to Goddard Eisenhower on Monday.
