8th boys, Maize South split

It was another split on Thursday for McPherson’s eighth-grade boys basketball teams.

The A-team lost 56-44 to Maize South despite three players in double figures. Adam Elliott and Jayton Alexander topped the scoring with 12 points apiece and Max Alexander supplied 10. MMS is now 0-2.

The B-team improved to 2-0 behind 13 points by Elliott as the Bullpups were a 34-30 winner. Cael Bauer just missed doubles with 9.

“I felt the effort was 10-fold from our first games at Goddard,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “At Goddard I felt like we had to play zone and tonight we were able to pressure and play a little more man-to-man and get after it. In the B-game we hit our goal holding our opponent to the low 30s, but in the A-game we still have to find ways to get stops. This is the second game that a team has put up basically 50 points on us in a 24-minute game. As for MVP of the night, I would have to give it to Adam Elliott. Not only was he the high-point man in the B-game and in the A- game he has just been a workhorse in all the intangibles. That's what was fun to watch tonight was the effort.”

MMS goes to Goddard Eisenhower on Monday.

MMS A (44) — Elliott 12, J. Alexander 12, M. Alexander 10, Powell 5, Pyle 3, Hein 2.

MMS B (34) — Elliott 13, Bauer 9, Powell 8, Ediger 2, Butler 2.
