MHS boys romp past El Dorado

There was a lot of "new" surrounding the McPherson High boys — an almost-brand-new starting lineup and a new bench.

But the end result was the same old thing.

MHS' boys unveiled their new look here Friday by more than doubling El Dorado, 58-26.

The game reached running-clock status in the fourth quarter as the Bullpups simply gave the Wildcats very few good looks, forcing them into a miserable 8-of-33 shooting night.

"It was a good way to start. I thought defensively we were pretty good," MHS coach Kurt Kinnamon said. "I thought we did a good job of keeping the ball in front of us for the most part."

It was pretty much a no-doubter from the start and 6-7 junior Ben Pyle was the Bullpup fulcrum with 28 points and 14 rebounds, numbers that could be pretty common this year.

Jake Alexander fired in 12 points. The Bullpups had nice ball movement with 23 baskets being set up by 12 assists.

One player off the bench who provided a spark was Jayse Alexander, who had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals while playing 18 minutes.

"I told him the way he played in the first half is the way he has to play for us," Kinnamon said. "The things he does are not necessarily going to show up in the box score."

The JV boys followed script with a 58-27 victory behind 12 points behind Jace Kinnamon. Ten Bullpups in all scored.

The Bullpup ninth-graders kicked off the day with a 63-17 running-clock victory as the quartet of Kvon Richardson (17), Riley Koehn (13), Cooper Courtney (11) and Sam Pyle (10) sparked the victory.

The Bullpups have a critical week ahead with non-league games Tuesday at Derby and at home on Friday against Miege in a colossal matchup.
