It was a defensive slugfest between McPherson’s seventh-grade A-girls and Goddard Eisenhower here Monday.

The Bullpups clamped down the entire way for an 18-8 victory as Ella Schmid’s 7 points led the way.

“In a very intense and chaotic game, I was proud of our girls for representing themselves with pride and composure and playing basketball the ‘McPherson way,’” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “We battled it out tonight on both ends of the floor and our defense was able to contain Eisenhower. We ran our offense well and got a lot of good looks, we just couldn't knock down very many shots.”

The B-team lost a 28-12 verdict. Kaylee Zeitlow’s 8 points led the Bullpups.

“The girls showed a lot of hustle throughout an entire game in which we ended up being down a lot,” MMS coach TJ Jackson said. “As a coach I need to prepare them a little better for the press defense and we hope to see continued improvement in some of our fundamentals to be able to keep things going well for us.”

MMS is home Thursday to take on Andover Central.

MMS A (18) — Schmid 7, Pelzel 4, Doile 4, Howard 3.

MMS B (12) — Zeitlow 8, Courtney 2, Wells 2.
