GODDARD — McPherson’s seventh-grade A-boys held off Goddard Eisenhower 33-32 on Monday for a key road victory.
Seth Madron’s 16 points topped the Bullpups, with Jayden Dukes next with 7.
MMS coach Eric Burghart said his team got by with less than its best.
“A-team did not play very well at all,” he said. “We had too many turnovers and were lackadaisical on the boards. That being said, we pulled out a gritty win against a talented Eisenhower team. We have some touching up to do in the next couple of days, but the grit and resiliency we showed throughout the second half are certainly things to build off of.”
The B-team lost 40-12 despite 6 points by Brayden Keane.
“On our B-side we have plenty of issues, but the biggest ones are the fundamental things in basketball,” Burghart said. “That’s on me as a coach. I thought walking before we ran was a good approach with this group, but sadly I skipped the crawling before we walked stage. We have a couple of days of practice before Thursday to start the process and will look for the small improvements as they come.”
MMS stays on the road Thursday to Andover Central.
MMS A (33) — Madron 16, Dukes 7, Buckbee 4, Hoover 2, Boese 2, Morgan 2.
MMS B (12) — Keane 6, Mattox 4, Ediger 2.
