GODDARD — McPherson’s eighth-grade boys lost their third straight close basketball game on Monday, being edged 49-46 by Goddard Eisenhower.

Max Alexander fired in 21 points to pace MMS, with Eli Pyle adding 14.

“I know the boys feel like I'm a broken record right now, but somehow we have to be able to hold teams to under 40 points or less,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “We play only 24-minute games and teams are averaging over 50 points a game. At the upper level, a game that is 40-minutes teams would be putting up close to 100 points on us. I don't care how well we shoot, every game teams are in it with us ‘cause we just are struggling to get stops defensively and struggle to rebound.”

The B-team was a 36-29 winner to move to 3-0 as Aaron Powell’s 11 points keyed a 36-29 success.

“Our B-team has figured out that if we share the ball and hold our opponent to under 30 points we will win most games,” Brown said. “They are off to a great start with a 3-0 record.”

MMS goes to Andover Central on Thursday.

MMS A (46) — M. Alexander 21, Pyle 14, J. Alexander 7, Elliott 2. 2 points unaccounted for.

MMS B (36) — Powell 11, Gerbrandt 6, Butler 5, Hein 5, Ediger 5, Forkell 2, Bauer 1, Gipson 1.
