It’s “Gauntlet Week” for McPherson College’s basketball teams.
The women’s team, especially, has its work cut out for it. The Bulldogs play Thursday in Hillsboro against defending KCAC champion Tabor, then host current KCAC leader Friends on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are 3-2 in the KCAC and 7-3 overall, but have gone into an offensive outage. They have scored just 45 points in each of their last two games and also scored just 33 points against Kansas Wesleyan earlier in the month. Great defense is keeping the Bulldogs in games, but they have to find a way to score more.
The men’s game with Tabor is against the KCAC co-leader, as the Bluejays are tied with Bethany at 4-1. Both teams took a two-game lead over the rest of the field into Saturday, but Bethany was upset by arch-rival Kansas Wesleyan while Tabor lost to Saint Mary, its first conference loss in two years. That brought a host of teams back into the KCAC race.
The Mac men are 1-4 in the KCAC, with two of the losses by two and three points, respectively. Overall Mac is 6-5, but has lost three in a row.
Thursday’s games in Hillsboro have 6 and 8 p.m. starts, with Saturday’s games set for 5 and 7 p.m. at the Sport Center. Both games will be aired on 96.7 KBBE-FM with Voice of the Bulldogs Matt Cole on the call. Pre-game both nights starts 10 minutes before tipoff of the women’s game.
