McPherson’s seventh-grade A-girls continue to rely on their defense to stay undefeated so far during this basketball season.

The Bullpups clamped down on Andover Central 24-18 here Thursday to improve to 4-0. Lauren Labertew’s 10 points led the way.

“It was a defensive battle tonight and our girls hung tough all game,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “I was proud of our ability to handle the ball and their pressure. We will continue to get better at running plays and finding the open player.”

The B-team lost 14-4 as Kori Courtney scored all 4 points.

“The girls played hard and played good defense,” Gehrt said. “We'll keep working on getting better one day at a time.”

The B-team is now 1-3.

MMS hosts Derby North on Monday.

MMS A (24) — Labertew 10, Schmid 6, Howard 6, Doile 2.

MMS B (4) — Courtney 4.
