ANDOVER — McPherson’s seventh-grade A-boys lost their first basketball game of the season on Thursday by the slimmest of margins.
Andover Central edged the Bullpups 45-44 as MMS is now 3-1. Seth Madron topped the Bullpups with 14 points and Aiden Hoover chipped in with 10.
“We just have to treasure the ball more,” Bullpup coach Eric Burghart said. “We do such a great job getting steals and hunkering down on our defensive end and then we hand the ball right back to them with a silly throwaway. We honestly had three pretty good quarters with one abysmal one and sadly that's what sank us. Seth hit some big shots in the fourth to help us scratch back into it and Hoover showed great poise when the moment needed it. Plenty to work on, but we have a lot to work with.”
The B-team is now 1-3 after a 40-12 loss. Brayden Keane supplied a team-high 6 points.
“Our B-guys really put in a great couple days of practice and it showed in our play tonight, not so much on the scoreboard but I believe in our comfortability with the plays and game situations,” Burghart said. “Javon Mattox played tough and Brayden Keane showed he's been working on his shot. We're excited to get back to work tomorrow.”
MMS goes to Derby North on Monday.
MMS A (44) — Madron 14, Hoover 10, Dukes 8, Boese 6, Conquest 4, Buckbee 2.
