COLBY — Step to the head of the class, Austin Eldredge.

McPherson High’s 138-pounder won all seven of his matches this weekend as he sparked the Bullpups to a 5-2 dual record in the Colby Invitational, giving them an 8-2 start to their season.

Scott Radke and Bailey Yaborough were nearly perfect, going 6-1. Brynton Crews had a nice weekend by going 5-2.

MHS’ wins came against Oberlin, Phillipsburg, Hays, Topeka Seaman and Hutchinson, while it lost narrowly to Colby and Lexington, Neb.

“The team really wrestled well this weekend," MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. "The two matches we lost, we had a couple of matches we lost late that really could've swung both of those duals in our favor. We got dinged up a little bit Thursday night at Smoky Valley. This forced our team to really wrestle well as a group, every dual we had numerous kids wrestling up a weight class to field the best team possible. This really shows how unselfish our team members are to do what's best to give us a chance to win as a team.  This is a really tough tournament. I'm really pleased to come home with five dual wins. I think Bailey Yarborough and Scott Radke really wrestled well and Austin is wrestling lights out."

It's another big week for the Bullpups as they host Buhler on Thursday in a dual match, then head to Abilene on Saturday.
