DERBY — After starting the year 0-3, McPherson’s eighth-grade A-boys have been on the rebound.
A 45-23 swamping of Derby North on Monday improved the Bullpups to 2-3 as Max Alexander scored 16 points to lead the way, with Adam Elliott next with 8.
“I know we opened with a really tough schedule and lost several close games, but I think we are starting to find our game,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “We are sharing the ball better as a team and are making the defense work harder on that end of the court. We have also held teams to mid 30s or below in the last two games, which is where you need to be in middle school basketball to win games.”
The B-team is now 5-0 as it blitzed Derby North, 43-27. Logan Ediger’s 15 points were tops and Zac Butler added 10.
“The B-team continues to ride the wave in a five-game stretch,” Brown said. “They jumped on Derby North early and really never looked back. Hopefully we can keep it going Thursday against Hutchinson.”
The games with Hutch are home games.
